Which ensemble should I choose?

When choosing your ensemble, consider the following elements of your event
  1. The Space

The larger the ensemble, the more space your musicians will need.

Additionally, the ensemble sound will carry more in a room with hardwood floors, hard surfaces, high ceilings, and the larger the room the longer the reverberation, or echo. Smaller rooms, carpet, furnishings, and the shape of the room can also influence the volume of any ensemble.

2. Number of Guests

Depending on how many guests you're expecting, the combination of conversation, food service, and activity can overpower a smaller ensemble. In some cases, amplification may be necessary to project the sound of an ensemble to a volume that is comfortably heard amidst your guests' conversations.

For ceremonies, there is typically less conversation and background noise that would impact the ensemble, and smaller ensembles can be heard just fine.

3. Your Musical Choices

In general, string quartets will have the widest diversity of both classical and popular music. In some cases string quartet arrangements can be adapted for a duo or trio, but it will lose some of the richness of tone that string quartets are most known for.
